Awarded the First Prize in Animal Rights to a Project Involving Embryocloud.
Overview
Embryocloud is one of four entities participating in the project titled “Replacing the Mouse Embryo Assay with the Bovine Embryo Assay (or How to Avoid the Sacrifice of a Million Mice Annually in Europe)”, funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation under the European Union’s Next Generation EU framework for Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience.
The award ceremony took place in October 2024 during the IV Animal Rights Congress, held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs, and the 2030 Agenda. The award was presented by José Ramón Becerra Carollo, Director General of Animal Rights, and Rosa Martínez Rodríguez, Secretary of State for Social Rights, to Dr. Pilar Coy Fuster, Scientific Director of Embryocloud.
Recognition for Innovation
This project has won the 2023 Animal Rights First Prize for the Most Innovative Alternative Experimentation Project due to its impact on reducing the use of animals in research, innovation, and scientific-technical quality.
A New Alternative in Biomedical Testing, aiming for ISO17025 Certification
Embryocloud is working on this project to become the world’s first company accredited with ISO17025 for the bovine embryo assay.
Through this project, the company aims to offer an alternative for embryotoxicity tests used in the biomedical industry, which currently relies on the mouse embryo assay. If proven equivalent, the bovine assay would prevent the sacrifice of millions of mice, as it uses material collected from animals raised for the food industry in slaughterhouses, whereas the mouse assay involves animals specifically bred for that purpose and sacrificed after the test.
