Lyophilised culture media

Lyophilised culture media

One of the advantages of the new freeze-dried culture media set is its presentation format. While the most common culture media are usually presented in liquid form, the new product is presented in a freeze-dried form.

This is an advantage compared to existing media as it substantially increases the shelf life of the product.
Until now, there have been no culture media for bovine or other mammals marketed in freeze-dried form, and no previous research has addressed this issue.

This is due to the fact that the formulation of traditional culture media did not allow freeze-drying, as they are formulated from highly thermosensitive organic substances, in addition to the fact that temperatures below 0ºC denature some of these compounds, such as proteins.

To overcome these technical limitations, EmbryoCloud has employed different processes to stabilise the medium, such as the use of stabilisers widely used in the food and pharmaceutical industries, which has enabled us to freeze-dry the culture medium without denaturing its components or losing its nutritional properties.

Ready to use

Also noteworthy is the ‘ready to use’ format of the new set of lyophilised target media, which facilitates and reduces the time spent by professionals during media preparation, minimising possible errors or contamination, improving the reproducibility of the process and reaching emerging markets where there are preservation limitations for culture media.
